President's Message

26 January 2012

PIKOM, the National ICT Association of Malaysia has come a long way since its formation 25 years ago. Indeed the development of the association over the years closely mirrors that of the ICT industry. From the PC era, to the internet boom and the advent of social media, the ICT industry is characterized by innovation. As a constantly changing industry, it is never static and constantly evolving. PIKOM celebrated our 25th year in 2011. Certainly a milestone in our journey in growing the ICT industry. Here's a quick recap of the year.

Exhibition and Retail
The year saw the soft launch of the PIKOM ICT Mall CapSquare where a total of 84,299 sq ft of retail space has been set aside for PIKOM's members to occupy at attractive rental rates. The four-storey PIKOM ICT Mall will offer a complete range of ICT products and consumers can expect the best deals and bargains when shopping there. PC Fair continues to be well-received by the public while the Digital Lifestyle Expo (DLE) provided a new avenue for members to showcase their products. The World Cyber Games (WCG) also added another feather in our cap with the Best Strategic Partner award.

Thought Leadership

Carrying the theme of 'Transcending into High Value', the Leadership Summit provides a platform to discuss new industry drivers and enablers that will take the sector forward. It is also intended to be developed into a platform where Malaysian companies, customers and analysts can come together and define the strategies and challenges for the next wave, and assist the Malaysia business community to chart the way forward. The SME Business Success with ICT Series was targeted at SMEs nationwide with a primary objective of increasing awareness of ICT and e-Commerce. This is PIKOM's major drive to encourage SMEs adopt both ICT and e-Commerce, and it comprised five regional seminars with multiple speakers and solution showcases.

Social and Care
Through a combination of networking activities and CSR, PIKOM organised a series of events including a charity golf and run which drew over 2,000 participants and generated more than RM 150,000 for various charities and social causes. The year culminated with the PIKOM 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner on November 18 where the best of the industry was recognized. Our former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad also received the inaugural PIKOM ICT Lifetime Achievement Award. Much has been achieved which is only possible with the valued support of our members. Our sincere thanks to you for being a PIKOM member.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year and best wishes for the year.

Thank you for giving us opportunity to serve you again in year 2012.

Yours sincerely,
Shaifubahrim Saleh
President
PIKOM, The National ICT Association of Malaysia
